Designing a kitchen carries with it specific challenges, which we would like to highlight with this example project. This kitchen is part of an open-plan living and dining area, and in addition to being more functional and visually appealing, it was in need of incorporating as much storage as possible into the available space.
According to the dark colour scheme in the kitchen area, the kitchen fronts are in a light grey with a matte finish. The handleless doors and drawer components enhance the sleek modern appearance. It was essential to increase the amount of storage, which led to the preference to install high wall units up to the ceiling.
Due to space constraints, we had to remain with an L-shape arrangement, but we were able to maximise the usable areas. Given the presence of a dishwasher, we chose to install a smaller sink with an easily removable drain. In order to make the best use of the dishwasher and the nearby units, we had to relocate the appliance. We extended the long side of the L-shape by around 20 cm, allowing us to add a wall unit and a wider base cabinet on the left side of the extractor, resulting in more usable space on the worktop.
Drawer units are an excellent solution for organising anything in the most effective way. The push-open mechanism makes the use effortless, and the hidden low drawer is ideal for small things like cuttlery or spices.
Shelves are both functional and ornamental, making them suitable for any room. In this project, the shelves were already in place and only needed to be painted in the corresponding colour. Considering they are intended to hold glasses and the available space is somewhat limited, these shelves are shallow picture ledges rather than standard shelf units.
A more effective option was implemented in place of the outdated kitchen's corner units, which were anything but practical. The carousels inside the units provide better access to the contents while maximising the most efficient use of the corner.
